Just finished watching the Carling Cup match between Man United & Leeds United. Although there once was a great rivalry here, that is no longer the case. The depth of this current United squad is stupid good all their "bench" players started---you know, scrubs like Sir Ryan Giggs, Dimitar Berbatov, Ji-Sung Park, among others haha. Anyways, the match was a comfortable 3 nil scrubbing by the Red Devils. A brace from the sumhow not injured Michael Owen and then a beauty by the ageless Walesman Giggys (video below).
However, the main highlight of today's match was the formation. Although it was technically a 4-4-2, the players selected sounded more like an unprecedented 2-4-4!!!! With Michael Carrick and Antonio Valencia playing defense and Diouf & Macheda at the wing position, United had 4 natural forwards on the pitch, 4 natural midfielders, and only 2 natural defenders (Fabio and Ezekiel Fryers?!). It was beautiful to some degree!
My other favorite part of the match involved the chaotic last ten minutes. With Fryers leaving the pitch with a knock and United have no further subs, DIMITAR BERBATOV deputized at centre defense alongside Carrick. A more maddening sight could never be seen!
